Between 2022 and 2025, Educate California provided coaching and educational support to participants in Los Angeles County’s Guaranteed Income Pilot program.
Of the 110 young adults who voluntarily engaged in ongoing coaching, 37 successfully completed the program and achieved key educational and workforce milestones, while many others participated intermittently by attending workshops, accessing resources, completing coaching sessions, or receiving referrals as they navigated significant life challenges. Participants earned diplomas, enrolled in community college, obtained industry certificates, secured employment, and developed personalized plans for their futures.
Building on that experience, the Opportunity Youth Success Initiative (OYSI) provides low-income and disconnected young adults with something many programs cannot: a trusted Youth Success Coach who stays engaged as they work toward their goals.
Each Youth Success Coach supports approximately 50 young adults, providing individualized planning, accountability, education and workforce guidance, financial capability development, and connections to opportunities. Educate California’s LifePrep Academy platform strengthens the coaching relationship by providing individualized planning, communication, educational and workforce resources, goal tracking, progress monitoring, and outcome measurement.
Technology supports the intervention; the relationship is the intervention.
Public assistance can provide stability. Trusted coaching helps young adults turn that stability into education, employment, financial security, and greater economic independence.
